Gallo nero new york restaurant

We always want to get down to the village for restaurants because they typically have the best atmosphere and food, but this cozy, European style restaurant brought a touch of the village to midtown. While, as a couple, we love wine, we're not exactly experts when you get into Italian wines. The owner was very gracious in bringing several wine choices to the table for us to taste and choose the one we really liked.

Finally, we only had panini for dinner, but again, they were absolutely delicious. My fiancee had the grilled vegetable panini and I had the skirt steak. We definitely will go back to Gallo Nero and hope that mid-town has more restaurants like this popping up. This is a great place to go if you're on a budget and want a cozy place, great food, and great wine! My high hopes for this spot were dashed after waiting fifteen minutes and never seeing a waiter. There was what appeared to be only one waiter, but there were several managers, hosts, etc.

We were finally approached by a manager as we got up to leave. He promised to take care of us and urged us to stay. We then waited some more for the waiter to come over, but she never did. In fact, the only time we ever saw the waiter was when, after our meal, she came over to take the tip off of our table. I give this place three months. The wine was great. The appetizers good. But, then came the entrees. However, I ordered the chicken pesto panini. I couldn't see any chicken on the sandwich.

It was literally a pesto, pepper and hint of chicken sandwich. Service was awful! The restaurant was not ADA compliant. We had a meal before a play on broadway. It was delicious, with evidence of true home cooking that was very flavorful.

I see no reason for some of the negative reviews, service was exceptional. We will return. What a disappointment! We loved this restaurant when it was across the street and was a little gem with great service. Now, its larger and gets more of a tourist crowd. Small children screaming! New wait staff. One couple left because of poor service. We couldn't stand the noise. Will not go back. Frankly, only the service was good.

Food did not stand out. In fact, we returned the mussels because they were cold and my branzino was fishy. Took my out of town guests here for good Italian. Prices are very reasonable. I always start with oysters which are fresh and the best value in Manhattan. Caesar salad is perfect. All the pastas are really good. You could spend a lot more and not do any better than this 9th ave.

I went to Gallo Nero several times in its old location across the street and never had a bad meal. This time, however, I did. While the bruschetta was good as always, the Caesar salad had very little dressing on it and the penne ala vodka tasted thick and heavy.

I didn't finish it. It was very loud, but it was a Saturday night pre-theatre, so that's somewhat expected. I will stick with their sister restaurant, Cara Mia, which is much more reliable. We recently went and learned that they moved. The experience was dreadful The servers worked not stop but it was clear that they wanted to turn over tables quickly.
