Austin hoyt football

Showers early, then partly cloudy overnight. Low around 45F. Winds light and variable. Updated: October 25, pm. Former Argonaut Mustang Austin Hoyt, now a junior at Brigham Young University, is finding himself starting at right tackle as fall camp comes to a close. Hoyt red-shirted his freshman year, and learned a few things playing on the scout team. He then took time away from school and football to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

During his first year back from the mission, Austin had the opportunity to play on special teams and also was able to get some game time experience playing right tackle. Last season, Hoyt was able to get more playing time including a couple of starts on the offensive line. During spring practices for this upcoming season, Austin was getting reps at both the guard and tackle position. As fall camp began he was positioned at right tackle and competing to be a starter.

With the season set to begin, Hoyt was tapped for the starting role. It is exciting for the young man coming from the small community of Ione; along with his family, friends and former coaches that are following his progress.

Austin took a few minutes to respond to some questions about Amador County, his mission and football. I also miss the people, who are so genuine and kind to everyone. It was always a game that I looked forward to and I also loved the support that each school received. It was the first college game I played in and the atmosphere was so much fun to be in. My body was completely out of shape, which took the better part of a year to get back to where I was before the mission.

I also learned a lot of self-control and great planning skills. I came home with a vision for my life and what I wanted to achieve. The football season preparation is a long process, but the rewards at the end are what I have to keep in mind. I feel that in the future, I will be able to work on long-term goals much easier because I am willing to prepare long beforehand. Is there anything else you would like to share with the Ledger Dispatch readers?

It has made me a better man and helped me develop more as a person. I am just truly grateful each day for the chance I have to be a part of the team and I will never forget these experiences I have had. Saturday, Aug. Saturday, Sept. Friday, Sept. I want to thank everyone who helped me have such a great career at BYU. Go Cougs! Congratulations to Austin Hoyt on a great football career and for always representing Amador County with class!
