Detroit truetrac vs locker

But at the end of the day, I want to run with well driven modern cars, and that means my car needs to be there as well.

Sponsored Links. Join Date Dec Posts I have run a Detroit Locker, a Torsen and a Salisbury in a fairly light car lbs. The Detroit softloc was way too violent when it would lock and unlock and actually upset the car. I don't think that would be a problem with a heavier car say lbs though.

When you throttle up the rear end locks and may cause some understeer depending on your set up. The Torsen would spin the inside tire exiting a corner if I had much rear roll stiffness, it was very smooth but I pulled it because of wheel spin. The Salisbury has a set of clutch disks with belleville washers to preload the clutches, the spiders are also set up on v ramps so it really locks up if you have traction.

I like this system the best because it always smooth locking and unlocking and it does not spin the inside tire with a stiff rear bar. Even if it is a daily driver and you wheel it some, I would be leaning hard towards the locker. I ended up putting a locker in the front Dana A lunch box style locker might be a good option if you were considering the front. I didn't lock the rear because of the Dana 35 and also because on the road I would be able to feel it more. A locker is a little bit difficult on the tight, twisting trails with trees if it is in the front- I don't regret it at all though.

I think it might be one of the best mods on my Jeep. Trutrac would help- but a locker might be a little better. I am running Trutracs front and rear My TJ is my daily drive. But, we do a fair amount of wheeling on the weekends. I would agree with everyone above It depends what you want out of your Jeep.

If I had to do things over I wouldn't have put the money into my D35 I did that before I joined this board. But, I wouldn't hesitate to use the Trutrac again. The steering is not stiff and the Jeep is much more capable than I ever thought it would be.

What do you want to run the Truetrac in? Front or rear? The units require unique bearings either for retro-fitment or to accommodate larger than stock axle shafts. What kind of break-in is required? While the time required to fully lap the gears will vary depending on driving style and loads, the units will operate smoother with age. Does the Detroit Truetrac lock up? The Truetrac operates by transferring power from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.

If one tire breaks traction, the amount of rotation or spin is controlled by transferring the lost traction to the higher traction wheel. I use my car on the street and on the strip, will the Detroit Truetrac hold up? On the street, the operation of the Truetrac will be transparent. You will not know it is there until you need it.

In racing situations, the unit will apply torque to both tires and launch straight as an arrow, time after time. The Detroit Truetrac is manufactured with forged and heat-treated cases with extremely high-quality gearing. The Truetrac is designed to be the strongest component in your axle assembly. How much horsepower and torque will the Truetrac handle?

Detroit Truetrac is designed to handle more torque power than the axle shafts it drives. Horsepower has little influence on the differential since it is more of a function of engine RPM.
