If you are still unsure wether to buy the Project Phoenix package or not, check out this comprehensive MC calculation. You might also click through some of the links at the bottom of this post. The Locust will be the smallest Mech of the project and the lightest Mech in all of Mechwarrior Online to date.
It weighs only 20 tons and comes with multiple ballistic slots. Thunderbolt is the heavy Mech of the package with 65 tons. The Mech has multiple ballistic, energy and missile hardpoints but no jump jets. The assault slot is filled by the Battlemaster. It lacks jump jets but has multiple hardpoints in each category making it a fearsome opponent. From a purely economical perspective, it is very worthwhile to get one of the packages, the bigger the better.
On the other hand, you will get multiple things which you can only get for mc and some only in this package: the Hero Phoenix Mechs will no longer be available at some point. I am currently a not so proud owner of a Flame, and the reason I purchased it was for the ability to put an AC20 on the mech something no other Dragon could do while still going 80KPH. Therein lies my first problem with "Project Phoenix. Take the Locust for example, with four Ballistic hardpoints and a single Energy hardpoint, that variant is all but Dead On Arrival.
But I think its pretty safe to assume that the Locust will have an ECM variant, which at that point will be the go to variant. But, assumptions get people killed. I want to know if it'll have an ECM variant beforehand, not just assume it.
The Shadow Hawk has a very similar dilemma; there's no tonnage on a 55 ton mech to make great use of 3 Ballistic hardpoints, and the great staple of Mediums, Energy hardpoints, are no where to be seen on the mech.
Not to mention its missile hardpoints aren't all that great due to is low number of tubes. The Thunderbolt and Battlemaster are far from unaffected by this, either. Both of the mechs have the potential of having an ECM variant. But, all this talking about how the Phoenix Variants have extremely high likelihoods of being outclassed brings me to another point. I can only wonder how many people would have purchased the Founder's Package if they had known that three of the four Founders mechs were sub par variants.
The JR7-D stands as the best of the Founders mechs when compared with its variants, and even then, a lot of people prefer the JR7-F over it. I, ultimately, have no interest in paying for what in essence are Hero mechs when I know there's a possibility that it may be outclassed. As I mentioned earlier, the only Hero mech I've purchased is the Flame. Again, I only purchased it because it could do what no other Dragon could, more importantly, it was a DRG-1C with much better hardpoint placement.
This allowed for the argument that the Flame was potentially the best Dragon. If I were to purchase into Project Phoenix, I would need the option of simply picking three variants of each mech and then deciding which variant I would keep and therefore become my "Phoenix Variant.
I do also understand that this would require a bit more work as each variant would have to have a Phoenix skin ready for it, but I take it that making skins isn't something that PGI finds too hard. I say this because we still get two to three skins a month that affect all mechs, a much harder task than simply making sure some 16 variants get a skin. Now, as a final point, I would love to have screenshots juxtaposing the Phoenix mechs with existing mechs for the purpose of size comparison.
I don't know who decided to have the Quickdraw be the size of a Highlander, but I have no interest in the Shadow Hawk and Thunderbolt is their both bigger than an Awesome. I do realize that this is the most unlikely of my wants to actually happen, but I'm just putting it out there. Other than my final point, I really don't think what I'm asking for is unreasonable. To me this is information that is required to make an informed decision what appears to be a package that is of great value.
I've never purchased a mech without a full story about its hardpoints and capabilities, and I don't plan too with Project Phoenix, no matter the value. If PGI decided to go through with what I'm asking, I can only see this bringing them even more revenue, as people original not interested, such as myself, would be more willing to purchase one of the Phoenix Packages.
This is, and can only be seen as, a bonus to anyone who has already purchased a Phoenix Package. However, until I have the full story laid out in front of me, I cannot go ahead and purchase a Phoenix Package in good faith, and instead must simply praise Alex for his artwork. Give us more information about the mechs. Allow us to make an informed decision. Posted 30 June - AM I like to include that it is very hard to justify purchasing package and funding PGI when obviously the game is fundimentally broken.
Pages upon pages of data and requests are never read or heard of. Now we face hit detection issues that were fixed then resurfaced again which makes the game even more fustrating. The analogy is that why would you buy a pipe made in China made out of some kind of plastic that warps, bend, and you know that will break in a month.
Why would you fund a company like that who makes terrible products and try to sell it to you saying is made out of the gold of the unicorn's fecies. TL;DR Why buy a product from a company that keeps repeatingly failing your expectation. More information is always good. Posted 30 June - AM Information is good. I am on the fence, personally, on whether or not I am going to purchase this package.
